I was reading a verse in the Message bible that says “the gods of the godless nations are mere trinkets, made for quick sale in the markets: chiseled mouths that can’t talk, painted eyes that can’t see, carved ears that can’t hear—dead wood! Cold metal! Those who make and trust them become like them” (psalm 135: 13-18). I thought about it for a moment and I realized that we tend to be like that, meaning that we have those of us who “dead”, cold, choreographed, strict or “disciplined” and/or scripted. I take a look at my life and I can see all of these traits because I have allowed myself to be part of the “matrix” far too long and have decided to take the red pill like neo and see how far the “rabbit-hole” really goes. Reading these verses propelled me to look for a script of that part of the scene in Matrix, so I am including the text version of that scene so that we can see neo in ourselves (the before and after):
written by Andy Wachowski & Larry Wachowski
Morpheus: I imagine that right now you’re feeling a bit like Alice. Tumbling down the rabbit hole?
Neo: You could say that.
Morpheus: I can see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he’s expecting to wake up. Ironically, this is not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?
Morpheus: Why not?
Neo: ‘Cause I don’t like the idea that I’m not in control of my life.
Morpheus: I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know, you can’t explain. But you feel it. You felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. Like a splinter in your mind — driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I’m talking about?
Neo: The Matrix?
Morpheus: Do you want to know what it is?
(Neo nods his head.)
Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere, it is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, or when go to church or when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, born inside a prison that you cannot smell, taste, or touch. A prison for your mind. (long pause, sighs) Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself. This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back.
(In his left hand, Morpheus shows a blue pill.)
Morpheus: You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. (a red pill is shown in his other hand) You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. (Long pause; Neo begins to reach for the red pill) Remember — all I am offering is the truth, nothing more.
(Neo takes the red pill and swallows it with a glass of water)

Well, nonetheless, I believe in taking daily, even hourly, inventory of self in order to make sure that I am in and have a firm grasp of what is really going on in my life and around me. I know that I am one decision away from a better second act, in my life. I am as emotionally damaged as those physically and/or emotionally stumped. It is easy to rid oneself of physical scars, just have surgery or make light of the physical scars and they no longer remain a burden, however, as for emotional scars, it is much harder to rid yourself of them because they hide themselves within myself in every nook and cranny of my beings. In essence, emotional scars tend to go really deep.
Moving on, and that being another story another time, I have come to believe that we as a society have created or bought into group-think too much. Like Morpheus I am not looking to create another me but rather I want to help someone look into the rabbit-hole and see the real truth. Like Neo, I want, and need, to liberate myself of falseness, unreal-ism, lies, deceits and selfishness and evil, therefore unplug myself from the “matrix”. We are surrounded with truth; we just need to learn to decipher them from the lies that bombard us daily.
